After a hiatus from hosting an Easter egg hunt, Heritage Presbyterian Church offered the event again last year and prepared for an even bigger turnout this year.

The hunt, which took place on April 12, was expected to attract 150 children, more than last year’s 125.

“We used to have an annual Easter egg hunt here at the church many years ago,” Rev. Kristin Stroble said. “It kind of stopped for a while. Last year we decided to start it back up again and have a wonderful success and have decided to make it an annual event.”

In addition to the Easter egg hunt, the Easter Bunny made an appearance to take photos with the children. They were divided into age groups – 3 and younger, 4-5, 6-8 and 9-12 years-old – to be sent out to hunt for eggs.

Stroble described some of the other activities that were offered.

“They’re going to be doing a craft, there’s face painting, there’s cookie decorating, then they’ll hunt for eggs outside and they can pick out prizes and candy,” she said.

With the cookie decorating, each child was given a plain cookie. They covered it in icing and decorated it with sprinkles.

Lannie Turek of Boardman brought her son, Andrew, to the egg hunt.

“My son goes to school here, so we came to the Easter egg hunt for his school,” she said.

Andrew collected nine eggs. He said his favorite candy was chocolate.

“It’s just a great event that’s free that kids can come to to get out of the house and have a fun, safe event,” Stroble said.
